By the end of the expedition, Lewis and Clark found and categorized 122 new animals and 178 plants, mapped the geography, and achieved friendlier relations with the natives. However, they did not find an all water route to the Pacific Ocean.
They considered the grizzly bear to be the most "terrifying" and "exciting of all the animals they encountered. However, it wasn't the appearance of these animals that really surprised them, but the shear numbers in which they roamed.
