Michael Faraday died in Hampton Court, Surrey, England, on 25 August 1867,
at the age of 75.
75 was a quite extraordinary survival in England in 1867. There is nothing in the
published biographies on Faraday to suggest that his death was due to anything
other than old age, the slings and arrows of fortune, and the thousand maladies
to which flesh is heir.
I read in a book that Michael Faraday died of unknown causes. The most likely cause is said to be Mercury poisoning. He began losing all of his memories into a blank fog gradually and in the last year of his life he could hardly do anything but sit around and look into space.
