The Qur'an argues that a man can marry up to four wives. Women are permitted to only marry one husband.

Q: 4:3: (Sahih International): And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].

Do Latter Day Saints Church teach polygamy?

No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not teach polygamy. The practice of polygamy was banned in 1890, almost 120 years ago. Anyone found practicing polygamy in the church today is excommunicated. There are a few offshoots groups and churches, such as the FLDS, Centennial Park Group, The Work, and the Apostolic United Brethren, that do practice polygamy, but these groups are not affiliated in any way with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. These groups generally strive to be distinct and far separated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because they believe that it has strayed from the truth and is teaching false doctrine.

Do the Church of Latter Day Saints teach polygamy?

No. The Church of Latter-Day Saints officially banned polygamy in the 1800's when the concept created much debate among the Mormons (another name for those who are affiliated with the Church of Latter Day Saints). However despite this ban many Mormons practice polygamy still. In Utah, about 60,000 Mormons practice polygamy (5% of the Utah Mormon population).
