PEARL HARBOUR DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO PROVOKE THE ATTACK. IT JUST HAPPENED TO BE THE U.S. NAVY'S MAIN NAVAL BASE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC.
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor was to take the American Carriers out of the war to make the Americans vulnerable to attack.
yes.
1941.
Japans attack on Pearl Harbor
December 1941
Attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Allies (USA, Canada, Britain, Soviet Union etc.) agreed to pool their resources and fight the Axis powers as a joint operation. Because of the greater industrial output of the USA and the increased manpower, the Allies were able to make inroads towards defeating the enemy which hadn't been possible before.
Because Pearl Harbor was only one military base in the US out of 737 total. The attack on Pearl Harbor killed 2390 people. The US military has over one million enlisted personnel. It would be like removing one bee from a bee hive and wondering why you still got stung by the other bees.
American citizens were outraged that Pearl Harbor had been attacked without warning, killing many loved ones, and any isolationism was shattered. The US would go to war, with ferocity unmatched by any other country.
Really, there were no generals involved. Generals are the top officers in an army. The top officers in navies are admirals. The Pearl Harbor attack was planned and carried out by the Japanese Navy. The main force behind the decision to make the attack was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who commanded the "Combined Fleet", most of Japan's seaborne ships. Yamamoto did not go on the attack to Hawaii, he remained in Japanese waters. The Task Force which carried out the Pearl Harbor attack was commanded by Admiral Chuichi Nagumo.
The ultimate answer was to make Japan surrender. Most people like the get back on them after the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
During the attack on Pearl Harbor the U.S.S Nevada tried to make a run for it but they were damaged and too close to the harbor entrance to make it without blocking all passage in or out of the harbor. They chose to ground near the hospital to keep the harbor entrance open and have a chance to save the ship.
