He was an English architect working in Leicester in the second half of the 19th century, distinguished of the Gothic Revival. He designed numerous well-known buildings in and around Leicester.
Goddard did not invent the horse buggy. The horse buggy was invented in Hungary in the 1400's. The horse buggy was commissioned by the king to carry his daughter to her wedding ceremony. The name of the maker is not known. Goddard buggies were named after the town in Kansas where they were mass produced.

For example, Goddard did invent the first liquid fuel rocket and the first two-stage rocket. Goddard himself stated that, as a child, he dreamed of flying to Mars. Fortunately, he took this dream, asked the questions about what would necessary to make it true, and then tried to develop the technology to make it happen.
Goddard did not create a rocket that went into space. He created the first liquid fuel rocket which was which lead to space rockets and for this is known as the father of modern rocketry. The first rocket to reach space was the V2 rocket made by the Germans during World War 2 as a weapon to deliver bombs.
