The New Deal was a series of economic programs enacted in the United States between 1933 and 1936. They involved presidential executive orders or laws passed by Congress during the first term of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The programs were in response to the Great Depression, and focused on what historians call the "3 Rs": Relief, Recovery, and Reform. That is, Relief for the unemployed and poor; Recovery of the economy to normal levels; and Reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression.
Back in the 1920's the idea of a Union to protect worker's funds was created, as well as increasing the minimum wage limits.

Most of the New Deal programs were designed to spur the economy and buy votes for Roosevelt. There were also efforts to reform banking practices and place controls on the Stock Market that would prevent stock crashes in the future.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt collected gold in the 1930s as part of his efforts to stabilize the economy during the Great Depression. The goal was to prevent hoarding of gold and to increase the money supply. The gold was later used to back the dollar as part of the New Deal policies.

Not initially. The 1890 act was not used effectively until the administration of President Theodore Roosevelt, from 1901 to 1909. Roosevelt had studied the actions of US industrialists and became known as the "trust-buster" for his efforts to prevent monopolies from controlling entire areas of the US economy.
