∙ 8y agoDuring the time of the Nazis St. Maximllian was taken to a concentration camp and one guy escaped the camp, so they said 10 will die. So they picked out 10 people and one of them, a man, pleaded with them not to kill him as he had a family. So St. Maximillian took this man's place. They were put in a cell for a 14 days and he still did not die. So eventually they gave him an injection of carbolic acid that killed him.

Father Maximilian gave up his food and provided basic first aid to fellow prisoners. Ultimately, he offered his life in the place of another prisoner who was about to be executed. Father Maximilian was executed by lethal injection.

When a prisoner escaped, the Germans were going to kill several other prisoners as punishment. Kolbe volunteered to take the place of one of the condemned men since that man had a family and children. He was starved for a time and then injected with carbolic acid to kill him.
