Simon Wonga was clan leader of the Kulin when White invasion occurred. He was one of the First Indigenous Australians to stand up for his people.

He walked from The Corranderk station with William Barak to the Parliament to seek justice for Indigenous Australians and therefore was one of the First Indigenous people to seek land rights for his people.

Wonga befriended William Thomas who learnt much about the culture of the Indigenous Australians from him.
