Usually the only negative that people attribute to Theodore Roosevelt was his handling of the Brownsville Affair in 1908, in which an entire unit of black army troops was dishonorably discharged on shaky evidence that they had been involved in a shooting. Because of racial tensions at the time, and his desire to not upset the southern states, Roosevelt did not reverse his decision to dismiss the entire unit when evidence surfaced that proved their innocence.
