Answer

He was an effective leader for many reasons. He stopped the importation of slaves, handpicked Lewis and Clark for their exhibition, reduced the country's debt by a third, wrote the Declaration of Independence, the Louisiana Purchase, the war with the Barbary Pirates, and many more.

He stopped the importation of slaves. He made it so that no one could bring any more slaves into the United States. He didn't make it illegal to have slaves since He had many slaves. But he didn't like the idea of having slaves. He handpicked Lewis and Clark for their exhibition. By picking them we learned many things about the west. We also could then build on the land there. In addition we could make a map of the west.

He was the first President who limited the government's power in order to increase state rights and American liberty. He believed in strict interpretation of the constitution (meaning that we should only use stated rights/powers when absolutely necessary), pro-french, liberty, and independence. The Louisiana Purchase was a huge success; in it we gained vast territory for America from Napoleon, and helped to increase westward expansion and trade success. He kept the nation at peace. He brought back the idea of the Declaration of Independence and liberty. Liberty rather than order.

He had an extremely successful first term in presidency. Some say his second term was ruined when he passed the Embargo Act of 1807 because it hurt the United States more than any other country. The Federalist Party was revived as a result.
