Who is Tiberius Gracchus?

They were 2 brothers from Rome who sided with the Plebians in the escallating Plebian vs. Patrician conflict. They were sons of Cornelia who was the daughter of Scipio Africanus. Tiberius Gracchus became tribune of Rome in 133 BCE and tried in many ways, some illegally, to help the common and poor people. He eventually passed a bill returning public lands to the state for distribution which was vetoed by another tribune. He illegally passed a bill kicking that tribune from office while illegally running for reelection and then passed his land bill again. This sparked a riot in which he was stripped to his underwear, beaten to death with a broken stool, decapitated, and thrown in the Tiber. His brother met a similar fate after being elected tribune in 123 BCE.

What are facts about Tiberius?

Background of Tiberius: Tiberius was born in 42 BC. He was the step-son of Augustus and his mother was Livia. Tiberius father was also called Tiberius - his name was Tiberius Nero. His father was from the Claudian family who was very rich and powerful. When Tiberius was only 3 years old, his mother LIvia, divorced Tiberius Nero and married Ocatvian, who would later become the emperor Augustus. Tiberius real father, Tiberius Nero, died when Tiberius was nine years old. As he was growing up, his step-father Augustus sent him on missions to give him experience so he could become a leader and rule the Roman Empire. For example, he was sent to fight with his brother, Nero Claudis Drusus, to fight against the Germans in the Alps, north of Italy. Tiberius married about 20 BC, when he was 22 to Vipsania Agrippina, who was the daughter of Augustus' favorite general Agrippa. In 13 BC, they had a baby son, who they names Julius Caesar Drusus. Agrippa died in 12 BC and Augustus forced Tiberius (who was 30 years old) to divorce Vipsania and marry Agrippa's widow, Julia Caesaris, even though Tiberius didn't want to. Tiberius won many battles. But he was very unhappy with his life. In 6 BC, when Tiberius was 36 years old, he quit his army positions and announced he was moving to the island of Rhodes. His step-father, Augustus was upset because he had no other sons to succeed him. After Augustus died, Tiberius was forced to come back to Rome and become the next emperor.

The first thing I want you to know about Caligula is that his real name is Gaius Ceaser or Germania. Caligula means little soldiers boots so.... Ok so now i will tell you the answer you were looking for. Caligula gained power when Tiberius died on March 16 AD 37 and left everything for Caligula. What did Tiberius do for civil services?

Tiberius did not do much for public services of public administration.Tiberius was a reluctant emperor. He said that he was too old, that he did not want to be an emperor and that he wanted only a limited part of the imperial powers. This was rejected and he had to take on the full imperial powers, but it was said that he refused the titles bestowed on an emperor, the emblem of Princeps and the Civic Crown. He wanted the senate and the bureaucracy to get on with state affairs. He issued only vague orders which were difficult to interpret, especially in the area of legislation. There were problems for Tiberius when Germanicus, a general who resolved an uprising by the legions in Germania died in 17 AD. He accused Piso, the governor of Syria, of poisoning him while he was dying. Piso went on trial, but he threatened to implicate Tiberius. Since the senate was hostile to him, he committed suicide. In 23 AD his son Drusus, with whom Tiberius shared his tribunician authority, mysteriously diedFrom then on Tiberius, tired of politics, started to make longer and longer annual stays at the island of Capri, off Naples. In 26 AD he retired on this island. He increasingly relied on Lucius Aelius Sejanus to run the governance of the empire and with his withdrawal to Capri Sejanus came to control the state machinery. Tiberius called him his socius laborum (partner in my labours). Sejanus plotted to overthrow Tiberius. The plot was discovered and in 31 AD Tiberius ordered his execution. The senate also persecuted several of Sejanus colleagues. Tiberius now embarked on a series of treason trials. It was said that everyone who had some connection with Sejanus and members of families who had ties with the rival Julian family were tied and executed. This led to a view that the last years of Tiberius' reign as tyrannical. This view has been challenged by several modern historians. They note that throughout Tiberius' reign only 52 people were charged with treason and that only half of them were convicted. They also claim that many of the trials were more down to the zeal of the senate, rather than Tiberius himself.

Did tiberius do bad things as emperor?

Tiberius was reluctant to be emperor and was not keen on governance. He tended to delegate state affairs to the bureaucracy, preferring to to get drawn into politics too much. In 17 AD his nephew and adoptive son died and accused the governor of Syria of having poisoned him just before his death. The Governor threatened to implicate Tiberius in the murder. In 22 AD his son died mysteriously. Tiberius retired from politics and withdrew to the island of Capri, off Naples, and left Sejanus in charge of the government. Sejanus then plotted to overthrow him. The plot was discovered. Tiberius ordered the execution of Sejanus. In the final years of his reign, Tiberius instituted a series of treason trials which gave him a bad reputation. Some modern historians think that ancient accounts of these were exaggerated and that there were fewer trials and fewer executions that it was claimed.
