Tim McGraw didn't really have a job before he was famous. When he was in college he learned to play the guitar for extra money. But when his hero, Keith Whitley, died he started to write songs. Then, he made a song and recorded it. Soon after, he gave it to his father, Tug McGraw, gave it to one of his father's friends from Curb Records. He listened to it and thought it was very good so he told Tug that Tim had a gift for music. Tug told Tim about his friend and his song and encouraged him to place gigs. So that's when he started his career. But to answer you're question, he was in a lot of sports and learned to play the guitar. But he didn't necessarily have any job before because he started doing gigs right after he graduated from Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship.
