Washington could see that the political parties would become more important than the common good of the people. Today's political parties are a prime example of what he thought would happen. The fact that congress is unable to conduct business because of the fractions in congress who owe allegiance to powerful corporations or interest groups instead of representing the people who voted them in. This is a perfect example of what Washington warned against. He was right.
