A branch is a specific area of study WITHIN the field. Think of it as a tree branch. The field branches out, and each branch focuses on a specific part of the field. In this case, psychology is the field, and branches of psychology would be (but not limited to) abnormal psychology, biological psychology, industrial psychology, criminal psychology, sports psychology, clinical psychology.
