This brought calamity to the Israelites and after his theft was discovered, the family was put to death.
The biblical account states that Achan buried stolen idols under his tent. Achan was an Israelite who took forbidden spoils from the city of Jericho after the Israelites conquered it, going against God's command. As a result, he and his family were punished and stoned to death for their disobedience.
