The Egyptions believed that when someone died they have an afterlife and that's why the Eygptions built pyrimids, so that when the body is in there the soul can climb up and reach heavan. plus the underworld is called Duat and the parts of it were full of perils and dangerous stuff so they write spells to keep you safe.

I believe they placed swords in the tomb because they believed that they would need them to protect the person in the afterlife. I suppose they place them there for the same reason they have jewels there, to help the person in the afterlife. I hope this helps :D
