starting around age 6, they would learn how to feed the chickens, collect the eggs, start to learn cooking, sewing, laundry, and other household chores. On top of this, they would often go to school also.

They worked as hard as the men did, keeping house, doing laundry, making food for him when he comes in from the fields, keeping a garden, chickens and a cow, and even helping out often with farm chores. Today, the farm wife is as involved in the farming activities as the farmer man is, very often acting as a partner in the farm's activities, from helping keeping records and bookkeeping to running the tractor and the combine, along with the kind of chores that the traditional farm wife does every day to every week.
