Yes. There are more kids in school than there were back in the 1800s. All grades were in one room with one teacher and possibly 15 - 20 kids would attend school in one classroom. However, as much as the Educational Board would have parents believe I find that in this 21st century in the U.S. and Canada kids are being cheated out of a good education. I am in awe of the poor spelling and was totally shocked when I found out how many kids couldn't read well when they graduated!

Well, honey, back in the 1800s, folks were popping out babies like it was going out of style. Women were getting knocked up as soon as they hit puberty, so you had girls as young as 14 or 15 having kids left and right. Back then, if you weren't changing diapers by the time you hit your late teens, people would start talking.
There was no such thing in the 1800s.
