actually, I'm a local resident of Santa Barbara, where Joe's Cafe opened up in 1939. Back then Santa Barbara was the Hollywood of the day, Charlie Chaplin lived and worked here- (Montecito Inn and Cafe use to be his residence and still contain memorabilia of that era). The Joe's on State St. in Santa Barbara, is the one that was advertised in the cartoons back in the day. The sign above the restaraunt is still the original old school one.
