Serfs didn't make their lives into anything. They were basically a restricted, controlled, type of people, not enslaved, just not free to do as they pleased. They were legally bound to live and work on their land. The majority of the Serfs lives were revolved around the soils and farming.
They ruled the serfs/slaves ( serfs are slaves) and they lived well instead of in a dirt floor hut.
Serbs Spent their lives like peasants working in fields
Serfs gave crops to Lords and Lords controlled serfs' lives.
Serfs houses were very poorly constructed. They were made out of mud or sticks
Sparta relied on serfs (not slaves - serfs were people bound to the land). The serfs delivered half of their produce to Sparta, which enabled the Spartans to concentrate on training for war and their normal lives. The serfs were also used a light infantry and archers to support the Spartan armoured infantry.
The serfs worked for the owner of the land they farmed and lived on. This could be a member of the nobility, a lesser member of the gentry, the king himself, or even some Church organization. Serfs were organized by a person called a reeve, who was himself a serf, appointed by the lord or elected by the body of the serfs on a manor.
Most likely because the serfs were considered to be lower then dirt at the time, they felt it unnecessary to improve the lives of those who aren't even considered human.
Serfs could not move to the city primarily due to the legal and economic constraints imposed by the feudal system. They were bound to the land owned by a lord, who had control over their lives and movements. Leaving the manor without permission was considered a violation of their obligations, and they faced severe penalties if caught. Additionally, cities often had their own regulations and social structures that made it difficult for serfs to integrate and establish a new life.
Serfs and slaves were similar in that both were considered property, had obligations to their lords, and lacked freedom to move about as they pleased. However, serfs were tied to the land they worked on, whereas slaves were considered personal property and could be bought and sold. Serfs also had certain legal protections and some degree of autonomy over their own lives, while slaves had no legal rights and were completely under the control of their owners.
Catherine the Great's decision to free the serfs had a significant impact on Russian society during her reign. It led to some improvements in the lives of the serfs, but also caused economic and social upheaval as the landowners lost their labor force and power. Overall, the emancipation of the serfs contributed to the modernization and transformation of Russian society.
