Chinook armor made of elk skins were very popular and the CHinooks traded them for other goods. Chinook baskets are woven so tightly that they can hold water. In fact Chinooks cooked in these baskets. There are beautiful carved cups and bowls, combs, and toys too.
Some foods were hung from the rafters in the house, some was stored in baskets and some was stored underground.

Salmon was the staple food for the Chinook Indians, and was also an important article of trade, the basis for an important religious ceremony, and a common motif in their art. They also made beautifully crafted canoes, and hand-woven intricate baskets.

They may have been called cedar bark baskets but they were not made of cedar bark as the cedars are not native to North America. They probably used the bark of Thuja plicata the Western Red Cedar wich is not a true cedar.
