Muslims do not encourage their children not to like Christians. Christians and Jews are people of the book as mentioned in the Quran and the people closer to Muslims are Christians as mentioned in the Quran. Muslims are allowed to marry Christians and Jews as they are people of the book. It is therefore a misconception on your part to think that Muslims are encouraged not to like Christians!

In the Quran, Muhammad referred to Christians and Jews as "People of the Book" (Ahl al-Kitab). They call them people of the book as Christians are holders of the God Bible holy book and Jews are holders of the God Torah holy book. Muslims call Christians and Jews to worship God as the one and only one with no partner, no associate, no companion, and no equivalence. God sent books (revelations) to the people pf those two religions as He revealed the Torah (old testament) to the Jews through prophet Musa (Moses) and He revealed the bible (new testament) to the Christians through prophet ESa (Jesus) - peace be upon them all - and that's something they have in common with Muslims who received the last and final revelation from God to mankind - the Quran that was revealed by God to prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Muslims call Christians and Jews to worship God as the one and only one with no partner, no associate, no companion, and no equivalence. They call them people of the book as Christians are holders of the God Bible holy book and Jews are holders of the God Torah holy book.

However, Muslims call Christians and Jews as "people of the book" as they are holders of the holy books Torah and the Bible that Muslims believe that these holy books are revelations of God.

Ahlul kitab, People of the Book.
Some do, some don't it depends on the interpretation of certain suras in Quran, as at several points in the Quran it recognises Christians and Jews as people of the book and says they can enter Heaven, however some Islamic scholar have intepreted this to mean before they became aware of the message of Muhammad.
