Just prior to the removal the Cherokee Nation fought the state of Georgia and the US through the US Court system, and petitions to congress. During the Trail of Tears the Cherokee learned the only lesson they could from America; what evil really is.

Not very well! I'm not sure what we could have done better, but I am sure we did some things we should be ashamed of. And we are still doing them. Take a look at some of the reservations out west. They are shameful. May 26, 1830, Indian Removal Act was passed by Congress. Land greed was a big reason for government's position on Indian removal.
