If you have ever read "Night" by Elie Wiesel then you would have a perfect understanding that the adults basically had a "dog eat dog" kind of challenge. They had to remain in perfect health and be able to work through immense job tasks for their life. The children had to do this as well but the adults faced the burnings, beatings, cussing, starvation, etc. It was really a brutal life for the adults. Also, the families were usually split up. Men one way, women and children another. I would recommend the book to anyone who is looking for a great read :)
