New Jersey was an colony of agriculture like most of America (It still retains the name "The Garden State" for its rich and fertile soil). Most of the iron of the Revolution came from the furnaces of North Jersey. New Jersey is known as the cockpit of the Revolution because it was the center of the war. Battles and campaigns were fought there throughout the war. The pivitol point of the war was Christmas 1776 when Washington crossed the Delaware through the night with his troops to launch a suprise attack on the British-Hessian forces at Trenton.
