The Boston Massacre
In the movie The Patriot, the crowd is screaming for the hanging or killing of Colonel William Tavington. He is portrayed as a ruthless British officer responsible for brutal actions against American colonists, and the burning of the stuffed soldier in effigy symbolizes the colonists' anger and desire for justice against British oppression.
March 5 1770 was the day of the Boston Massacre. It started because some colonists were taunting a British soldier. The soldier ran to get help and more soldiers and colonists gathered at the steps of the Customs House.
