They hated it at first. It was considered an extravagance for the 1889 Centennial celebration and was planned for demolition shortly afterwards. Only after it was completed and people had a chance to visit it did they realize that M. Eiffel had created one of the modern world's greatest structures.
As I'm told, at first the reactions of the Parisians were that they were extremely angry with the person who built it and shouted at that person and got really ANGRY. But seeing how famous it made France they got happier about it!
the Eiffel tower is part of the landscape of Paris. You only need to see it in a film to know that you are in France, as it is unique. It is a world-famous landmark and a major tourist attraction. It was at the time a technical prowess and the tower had since demontrated, even in the December 1999 tempest, that it was significantly under its tolerance thresholds.

The Eiffel Tower construction started in 1887, and ended in 1888. Although most people think the Eiffel Tower was made of steel, it was actually made out of puddled iron, which is a type of wrought iron melted. The Eiffel Tower was made out of 1808 pieces of puddled iron that were riveted together. The Eiffel Tower was built for the entrance for the World Exhibition, which was a celebration for the French Revolution. The Tower is now a national momentum of Paris. The many changes include a 160 meter long thermometer attached to the side of the tower, a skating rink on the first floor, a television antenna placed on top of the tower, a meteorology (weather) laboratory at the top of the Tower, and a printing press for a newspaper on the second floor.
The most iconic sights in Paris are the Louvre, the world's largest collection of various arts, the Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the most famous cathedrals in all of Europe, and the Eiffel Tower, one of the first things many people think of when hearing Paris.

The Eiffel tower and baguettes
Unknown, but if the question is about the Eiffel Tower, I think it was named after the architect who designed it. The tower was supposed to be a temporary structure for the World's Fair in Paris, and the French thought it was ugly, but when the fair was over they had grown to like it and refused to let it be dismantled.
Because there are lights and people think it looks pretty.
