The Mayflower compact was written by the pilgrims after they arrived in the New World on November 11, 1960. It outlined the government the pilgrims were going to follow in America.
The Pilgrims took it upon themselves to create a document for self-government. (A+)
The Pilgrims came to North America to escape persecution from the church and corruption in Europe. They wanted to create a society where anyone could practice their own religion freely.
The fact that many of the Pilgrims could read and write is evidence of their education. Additionally, their ability to create legal documents, such as the Mayflower Compact, further supports the inference that they were educated individuals.

Squanto taught the Pilgrims to make a sweet treat called "maple sugar." He showed them how to tap maple trees and collect the sap, which could then be boiled down to create a sweet syrup or sugar. This method provided the Pilgrims with a local source of sweetness, which was especially valuable in their new environment.
