Luke 23:39-43
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!"
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."
42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[d]"
43 Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
In Matthew's Gospel, the two thievs reviled Jesus, just like the mob that watched on (Matthew 27:44): "The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. "
In Luke's Gospel, only one of the malefactors reviled Jesus (Luke 23:39): "And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us." The other thief repented (Luke 23:40-42): "But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."
The reason for this difference is simply that Mark's Gospel gave the two later evangelists no guidance as to what the thieves would have said. They copied from Mark, both unaware of how the other would add to the original. The author of Matthew chose to emphasise the humiliation of Jesus, and so had both thieves revile Jesus. The author of Luke chose to show that those who repent, even a crucified thief would receive salvation.
Jesus said to the robber who repented , today you shall be with me in paradise.
That he wanted to be saved and go with him
One of the thieves asked Jesus to remember him.
Jesus christ as well as the two thieves died on the cross on good friday.
During the daylight hours of the Passover (days counted from sunset to sunset)on Tuesday, April 25, 31 AD, two thieves were also cruxified with Christ from 6:00 AM to His death at 3:00 PM.
Two Thieves and a Cross - 1913 was released on: USA: 4 November 1913
Thieves were crucifies either side of Jesus' cross.
The Holy Bible gives no detail about the identities of the 2 thieves who were crucified with Christ, howver we do know one had a change of heart and received salvation!
contrary to what tradition teaches, there were actually four crucified with Christ on Calvery.
It should be "a gang of thieves" or "a group of thieves" instead of "a crowd of thieves".
i can say 6......the gospel books and the book of Isaiah
The sign placed on top of Jesus' cross read "King of the Jews" in three languages: Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
Christ of Saint John of the Cross was created in 1951.
jesus died for our sins, he was put on a cross with a crown of thorns and his hands and feet were nailed to the cross. to make sure he was dead he was stabbed with a sword in his side were water not blood came out. on top of the cross it says here lies the king of the jews. in different languages, he was next to two thieves.
The cross by itself signifies that Jesus is not on the cross but has risen from the grave. Christ on the cross signifies his sacrifice. Today, Catholicism has Christ on the cross on crucifixes while protestants tend to not have Him on the cross.
