First of all, to clarify, the magi didn't bring the gifts to Jesus until a bit after his birth, when he was living in a house with his parents. Some believe that it may have occured a couple years after his birth. In Matthew 2:11, The Bible says: "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh." (NIV) These gifts were also symbolic, gold representing Jesus being a King, incense, which was often used in religious ceremonies, symbolizing Jesus being God, and myrrh, used in embalming bodies, symbolizing Jesus' death and burial.
