Tomb buildings were a representation of the person buried inside, Pharaohs were buried in big pyramids because they were rich and powerful and were often buried with much of their riches and possessions, they were mummified because they believed that after they died they would be judged. Their heart would be placed on sacred scales by a god to see if they had lived a perfectly balanced life if they were out balanced their soul would be sent to the underworld, if they lived a perfect life they'd to be sent to the other world to be with the gods and live forever in eternal happiness.
