Most people in the Middle Ages wore undergarments made of linen and outer garments made of wool. A Longer jacket length was usually a sign of greater wealth, made with better materials and brighter colours. The clothing of the aristocracy and wealthy merchants changed according to the dictates of fashion and tended to be more elaborate.
