They didn't actually do anything in space, as they were probes sent to the planet Mars.
They were launched in the August of 1975 and arrived at Mars in June the following year- each probe had two sections, an orbital satellite designed to take photos of the planet from above, and a lander designed to analyse and collect data from the Martian soil as well as take photographs of the Martian surface. Both probes landed in the South-Eastern hemisphere of the planet, although they were hundreds of miles apart from one another.
The Viking missions were a huge success, with both probes and satellites functioning for several years (the Viking 1 lander was working up until November 1982, and then it was only human error that stopped it functioning!) For more information about the Viking missions, you can look up a previous answer I gave about them in my own WikiAnswers contributions, or alternatively visit the Wikipedia page devoted to them.
The United States launched the Viking space probes. Viking 1 was launched on August 20, 1975, and Viking 2 was launched on September 9, 1975. These probes were part of NASA's Viking program to study Mars.
The Viking Space Probe was actually two different probes. Viking 1 and Viking 2 were used to explore Mars. The probes took photographs, did experiments and deployed instruments to the surface of Mars.
Space probes voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched in 1977
space
viking 1 was sent in outer space is to study planet from surfaces.. it was sent and landed at Mars and studied the surface of the planet... :)
viking 1
The Viking space probes visited the planet Mars
viking 1 and viking 2
To orbit the planet Venus
To analyze the soil planets
Space Viking was created in 1963.
Actually, there are very many space probes out there, like Cassini, Voyagers 1 and 2, Spirit and Opportunity, Galileo, the Viking Lander, and many more.
