There were cultures from all over the world present during the Gold Rush. People came from all walks of life to try and strike it rich in California and the Yukon Territory.
Surprisingly, yes there we're Americans present during the Australian Gold Rush. However, they were few compared to the different European people and Chinese people who made up the majority.
Some of the major difficulties that the early gold prospectors had faced in Australia during the gold rush included cultural conflicts and a lack of housing. Often, people of different cultures would fight and even kill other prospectors.
There was no specific catogory for gold rush miners. They came in all different sizes and ages, with all different backgrounds and education.
