If you are facing the south pole, you are facing south. As soon as you step on the south pole itself, all directions are north, no matter where you face.

If you are asking about simple bar magnets or electromagnets, yes. The same is true of "magnetic moments" at the molecular level.

If you are asking about the earth's magnetic poles, the answer is not as forthright. It is thought that the earth's magnetic field is a result of molten iron currents in or around the earth's core, and occasionally they have produced two norths that merge into one south pole, and other combinations.

Your answer depends on where you are standing to face the South Pole.

The South Pole -- and the North Pole -- mark the convergence of all lines of longitude, including those that separate the eastern and western hemispheres.

No. "Down" is the direction toward the most effective gravitational mass. When standing on the surface of the Earth, the most effective gravitational mass is the Earth itself, so "down" points to the center of the Earth. Your "down" in Australia is different from my "down" in California, but in each case, it's toward the center of the Earth.

As we move off the Earth and into space, "down" will depend on the direction of acceleration; in a spacecraft that is accelerating, "down" is toward the engines, and "up" is the direction of acceleration. In a rotating space habitat, "up" will point to the center of spin, while "down" will point to the outside of the station.

Is it the people in south pole standing upside down?

Depens on your perspective. As far as they are concerned they will have their feet towards the ground just as anybody else. If you were to look at the Earth from space, you wouldn't be able to tell what was "up" and what was "down", making it all a moot point.

Where should it be located? Obviously if your looking at a map, south is down. How can south be located down? If your standing on the south pole, there is no south. If your looking for a star and it is located in the southern part of the sky, that is where you would look for it. A point of reference, not a rule as to where south is.
