Here are the common causes of body odor or odour:

  • bacteria on the skin
  • not washing properly (be sure you wash between skin folds)
  • eating certain foods such as garlic or broccoli
  • diseases or infections

Sweat build up in skin glands. If there's a compressed area of your body (compressed by another body part) I.e. Inner legs, under arms, arse. Typically where hair grows, (not on your head) there's BO.

The answer is the same for bad breath or for body odor: normal body bacteria creates malodorous molecules as a result of their waste products from metabolism of oils and proteins found on these surfaces. Hydrogen sulfide is among the many of these end products. Antibacterial soaps containing triclosan generally reduce the number of these bacteria , while antiperspirants will reduce the amount of sweat available for their consumption.

I'm a 45 year old guy. I sure wish someone had the answer to this one. My odor is hardly noticable until I go out in the sun, which I work outdoors a lot in the summertime. It's not an armpit odor (although they smell too) but it's an odor that goes head to toe. I shampoo over and over as soon as I get home and my hair will still be smelly and the same as my arms and probably the rest of my body. It's not as nearly detectable as when I'm out sweating in the sun all day, but I know it's there. I used to be able to smell the soap and shampoo after a shower, not anymore...in fact for about 23 years I've had this curse. Showering helps but I want to be cured! I want to know what's causing this.

There are many things which may cause bad breath and body order.

Bad breath is caused when you do not maintain your teeth by brushing your teeth at least once a day. Bad breath is caused by the decomposition of the food in between your teeth and the accumulation of plaque bacteria after you eat.

Bad breath can also be caused by something you ate; by skipping meals, especially breakfast; illness or disease; smoking; heavy consumption of alcohol; or having a dry mouth. Bad breath can also be caused by gum disease; poorly fitting dental appliances; yeast infections of the mouth; and dental caries.

Body odor is caused by sweat from the apocrine glands that combines with bacteria on the skin. The break down of the bacteria causes the odor. Things which cause body odor include stress; sweaty feet (especially if you do not wear socks); under washed Bras; foods such as garlic, onion, broccoli and brussels sprouts; alcohol; and Diabetes and other diseases.
