The major risk with marijuana is mental health issues. Some smokers become paranoid and by continuing to smoke the paranoia becomes very, very real. If there is a family history of mental illness or you become paranoid (even occasionally) then stop smoking it - or if you aren't then don't.

Otherwise it is fairly safe. Hepatitis could be caught in theory from sharing a dirty bong, same with coldsores (herpes). Psychiatric conditions are worse in bong smokers than joint smokers too.

Putting anything into your lungs is unhealthy but unlike tobacco it is not likely to cause lung cancer. Marijuana is used in cancer patients to increase appetite and inhibit cancer growth. It doesn't cure cancer but it is helpful to other treatments.

At the end of the day it is a drug like any other, very similar to alcohol. If you abuse it you will have problems. If you are responsible then you should be fine
