Longterm alcohol use robs your body of many, many nutrients, which causes extensive damage. First it damages the liver, which is the body's filter. Some illnesses caused by alcohol are: Encephalopathy (brain infection), Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome, Neuropathy, Liver disease, including Cirrhosis of the liver. If the alcoholic smokes, even more problems - emphysema, COPD. Damage to the liver should never, never be ignored. It is a death sentence.
