Firstly, 'life after death' is eternal and so is your soul, meaning it will last forever, an open-ended time span beyond human understanding. Your soul has no physical attributes and it relates to the form/frame your total conscious existence has lived in since your birth and will live in through all eternity.

Only souls free from mortal sin, who avail of salvation through Jesus Christ, will spend eternal life in Heaven, though many will first have to go through purification of sin in Purgatory. Generally, all other souls will spend eternal separation from God, in hell.

Catholics believe that salvation is afffected by the state of one's soul and the soul can ONLY be cleansed by genuine and sorrowful confession of sin to a priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Sin accumulates frequently and therefore confession is required frequently, certainly at least every month.

Heaven: Generally, souls free of unconfessed sins get to go directly to God in Heaven, the highest goal of every Catholic.

Purgatory: Souls with unconfessed non-mortal sins must undergo purification from sin in Purgatory, because sinful souls cannot approach God's throne. Being purified is excrutiatingly painful and possibly lengthy, though the souls sojourn there is temporary. After the soul's cleansing, it proceeds to God in Heaven to live out the remainder of eternity.

Hell: Hell is where your soul ends up if you have commited any unconfessed mortal sins, such as murder, hatred, adultery, sexual sin, and many more. There is nothing more terrible than to be sent to hell for even a moment, never mind for all time. One must do everything possible here on Earth to avoid hell.

Remember, to be assured of the all important cleansing of ones soul, you must see a Catholic priest in confession. Nothing will ever be more important.

Catholics believe that immediately upon death, we undergo the particular judgment at which Our Blessed Lord confirms our choice of heaven or @#!*% - we actually make that choice on earth by our way of life, and our actual dying is the occasion of Satan's greatest efforts to get us to reject God finally, our greatest temptation is in the final minutes of our life and we cannot survive them if we have not fortified ourselves with regular reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion throughout life.

If we are judged worthy of heaven but are not yet perfect then we throw ourselves into the purifying fires to purgatory to remove the detritus of sin so that we may be perfect to enter heaven. If we have proved ourselves unworthy of heaven completely by dying with unforgiven mortal sin on our soul, then we cast ourselves into the undying, eternal fires of @#!*% . Most people end up in hell, as Our Blessed Lord, Himself, tells us in St. Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. How narrow is the age, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!

As Catholics, we believe the World will end when Jesus comes to the Earth for the second time. As the World ends, many ordeals will happen to test our faith. Those who remain with their faith will enter the kingdom of God in the end. Those who don't will receive great punishment for eternity.

Yes. but it is not a main focus of the religion currently. most do not have it as a main belief, but believe in the future, it probably will happen. other christians (eg penticostal), believe it it nearer (possibly within this lifetime) and that is where theories like "born again" come in. but catholics, no not really.

The Catholic Church does not take a particular position on the how or how soon the world will come to an end. We know as Catholics that the world will come to an end someday, but we leave that entirely in God's hands. In the meantime, we concern ourselves more with the other, personal "end-of-the-world" that each of us will face one day, sooner or later. We hope to be ready to meet the Lord at the end of our lives here on Earth, to be able to hear Him say, "well done, good and faithful servant!" We do this by deepening our faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through prayer and the sacraments, by caring for others, especially those less fortunate, and by avoiding sin.

Jesus stated that all would be judged according to the word given by the Father. Those who loved the word would join the Lord in Heaven. Those who did not would be separated from him forever.

Do Catholics believe in a new heaven and a new earth?

since catholics believe that Jesus is the savior and they are early christians so um the truth is that there is no new heaven or earth. so this is the word that christians use as the end of the world called the rapture(meaning apocolypes) so people who believe in Jesus christ may rise up with him to go to heaven supernaturally, and people who don't believe in god must stay down on the ruined earth and be ruled by Satan for 1000yrs.

What do Roman Catholics believe about God?

Roman Catholic AnswerWe believe that God is Love. That He created us in His image and calls us to know and to love Him. We believe that God is the complete "end" of our existence, which means He is the reason we exist and the fulfillment of our existence. By knowing, loving, and serving Him here on earth we shall come to be happy forever with Him in Heaven. By turning away from Him here on earth, we, of our own free choice can reject God and end up eternally frustrated in hell.

Is this earth coming to an end?

Yes, but so slowly you do not need to worry.

Why do people actually believe the world is going to end in 2012 besides the calendar idea?

Most people do not believe that the world is coming to an end until billions of years from now when the sun goes nova and burns up the earth. The end of the world in 2012 is just some nonsense that only few nut jobs think is real. These are the same people who thought the world was coming to an end in June 2011. Out of 7 billion people on the planet, only a handful think that the world is coming to an end this year, and that is because there are always mental cases who think that the end of the world is coming soon. Next year is 2013. Because 13 is considered unlucky, there will probably be idiots who think that the world is coming to an end next year as well. Same with the year 2014, 2015, 2016, and so forth. There will always be idiots who believe the world is coming to an end for some stupid reason.

In principle, there is no reason why they shouldn't. But in the end, it's down to the individual, not the denomination they have attached themselves to.
