Death is the result of sin and the fallen nature of the world. Death is when the body no longer can sustain life so the soul can no longer dwell there. At some timeframe (difference in Christianity) the person's spirit is then judged on whether or not they have received salvation through Jesus.

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised.
