  1. To teach people about life and Dharma
  2. To enlighten an atman(soul) of one of there followers if they are attaining enligtment
  3. To free any atman(soul) who has followed the guru(satuguru) after they have finshed living there human life, by walking the atman(soul) back to Nirvania(helping an atman attain Nirvania/Moshak.)

I mean I am a hindu,Buddhist and a Jain, and gurus do not just appear in sikhism! But otherwise there are two types of gurus;Dharma gurus and satugurus. Satugurus do all of the 3 above and Dharma gurus only do the first one! All sikh gurus are satugurus!
