PARVATI IN HINDU MYTHOLOGY:

Parvati is the second consort of Shiva and is the incarnation of Sati, the first consort of Shiva.

THE MANY ASPECTS OF PARVATI:

1. Parvati is the consort of Shiva

2. The Shakti goddess are believed to be incarnations of Parvati. Shakti goddesses are goddesses of illusion. There are infinite Shakti goddesses. The belief brings the villagers into the mainstream and also enables them to worship a more realistic goddess.

3. Parvati is considered as Adi Shakti or Nirguna Brahmana. Shiva is considered as Saguna Brahman. This belief thus makes Shiva the supreme Hindu god.

THE PURPOSE OF PARVATI:

When faced with a mighty task Shiva would enable us to divert all of our interest into that task. However, this would be opposed by Vishnu, the preserver.

Parvati enables us to divert our interest into a single activity in the early stages manually. Later Shiva takes our making it automatic.

This role played by Parvati is symbolized in Hindu mythology by a dedicated Parvati making a reluctant Shiva take her as her consort and then on wards showing interest in worldly affairs.

Shiva is the god of determination. Like any other Hindu god, he is made of a facilitating force (Saguna Brahman) and a retarding component (Nirguna Brahman).

Parvati represents the Nirguna/retarding/ controlling component of the Shiva force.
