Traditionally the Emperor of Japan (Tenno Heika) sits on the Chrysanthemum throne, though this is done for only very rare and solemn occasions. The chrysanthemum flower is the seal of the Japanese imperial family.
Today's modern monarchy is much more active. They have modern furniture at the Imperial palace, so I'm sure His Majesty the Emperor sits where he wants to sit; unless it is a very formal occasion.
