What do MRI results mean when they say level C5 C6 mild diffuse spondylotic disc protrusion noted causing ventral compression with thecal sac?

C5-C6 is the lower portion of your neck. The palpable bump on the back of your lower neck is C7, so we are talking about one disc level above that. This is not serious. A disc protrusion is really a disc bulge, meaning the disc is bulging or protuding out of the normal disc area between the vertebrae. In your case it is bulging anteriorly, (ventral) or towards the front. You probably have some nerve impingement, maybe numbness/tingling in your arms or thumbs. Surgery is not recommended for this mild diagnosis. Your best bet is a chiropractor who will release the pressure on nerve and traction the neck to allow the disc to come back into place.

they are talking about the discs between cervical vertebrea numbers 5 and 6, and 6 and 7. dessication means drying out, bulge is of course a bulge, and effacement means out of place. im just a guy with back problems but id say you have a bulge and lack of fluid on the front side of of the 2 disks between the 5th and 7th vertebrea stressed but not blown out

c5-c6 is the location of the disks in question. central means the 'middle' and protrusion means that there is some 'bulging'. effacement means 'showing' or 'opening' and anterior means the 'front'. posteriormeans the 'back'. this doesn't give you a diagnosis or complete answer to your question because the MD that ordered your mri should be the one answering your questions. hopefully, however, you have been given a little more knowlege of the 'lingo' to make your conversation with him/her a little less daunting and a little clearer. good luck and give your MD a call!
