Methodist Christians believe in Jesus Christ as their personal savior. They believe in the faith as expressed by the Apostle's Creed. They promise to support the church. Beyond that there is great freedom for the members. Both Rush Limbaugh and Hillary Clinton are Methodists. Both Roman Catholic Priests and Southern Baptist Pastors have become Methodist Pastors. Both had no difficulty believing basic Christian Doctrines and being assigned to a particular parish by a Methodist Bishop.
United Methodism is characterized by:
1) a democratic form of government consisting of executive (council of bishops), legislative (annual and general conferences composed of ordained clergy and lay persons) and judicial branches;
2) the right of each member to make his or her own decisions about faith, morals and practice through the use of resources such as the church and the Wesleyan quadrilateral: scripture, reason, tradition and experience;
3) a commitment to social justice and peace (although it is not a pacifist church).
Methodism has a lot in common with other Protestant religions. Among other things, it is characterized by:
1) a democratic form of government consisting of executive (council of bishops), legislative (annual and general conferences composed of ordained clergy and lay persons) and judicial branches;
2) the right of each member to make his or her own decisions about faith, morals and practice through the use of resources such as the church and the Wesleyan quadrilateral: scripture, reason, tradition and experience;
3) a commitment to social justice and peace (although it is not a pacifist church).

There are 76 member churches, from 132 countries, representing about 75 million Methodists worldwide. The Catholic Church is a worldwide communion comprised of 23 different autonomous or semi-autonomous churches that are in communion with the bishop of Rome (the pope). There are about 1.15 billion Catholics worldwide, in every country.
Following the Civil War, the Baptists had the most black members, next came the Methodists, and the Presbyterians came in a distant third. A few years after the Civil War ended, most of the black Baptist Churches in the Southern Baptist Convention pulled out and formed a different group. Many different black Baptist denominations exist. A few Methodist Churches remained with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South but many went with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Other black Methodist Churches exist. The Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church is a Black organization.

In addition to Catholicism, Confirmation is also a sacrament in Eastern Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, and Lutheranism. Each tradition has its own theological understanding and practice of Confirmation, but the general purpose is to confirm and strengthen the individual's faith.
