Following the Civil War, the Baptists had the most black members, next came the Methodists, and the Presbyterians came in a distant third. A few years after the Civil War ended, most of the black Baptist Churches in the Southern Baptist Convention pulled out and formed a different group. Many different black Baptist denominations exist. A few Methodist Churches remained with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South but many went with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Other black Methodist Churches exist. The Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church is a Black organization.
In Alabama, the top five religions are Christianity (Baptist, Methodist, Catholic), Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Christianity is the predominant religion in Alabama, with Protestant denominations like Baptist and Methodist being the largest. Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism have smaller but growing communities in the state.

The Daughters of the King is an Episcopal Order of women who commit themselves to prayer and service. Members are expected to also be members of churches in full or near communion with the Episcopal Church (USA), which is the largest US body in the Anglican Communion.
The Uniting Church in Australia is the third largest denomination in the country. It was formed on 22 June 1977 from the uniting of the Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in Australia. Some Presbyterian and Methodist churches still remain independent outside of the union. In uniting, the members of those bodies testified "to that unity which is both Christ's gift and will for the Church" (Basis of Union, para. 1). Ecumenism remains a vital aspect in all of the Church's life and work - in local congregations, national commitments to work together with other churches, and relationships and partnerships with churches of various denominations in Asia and the Pacific.
The Methodist Church after breaking away from the Church of England, soon found a strong following in Wales. They preached to the Welsh coal miners and farmers and to this day, Wales is the most Methodist anywhere in the UK. The Anglican Church is the 2nd largest church followed by the Reform Churches.

As of 2010 The Catholic Church is the Biggest Christian Church in the US. With about 68,000,000 members. The next is The Southern Baptist Convention with about 16,000,000 members. The third is the United Methodist Church with about 7,000,000.

The majority of African Americans are protestants, and their largest denomination is the Baptists. There is a strong history of historically black churches, which means churches where more than half of the congregation is black. They tend to have a different cultural and religious feel that the predominantly white churches of the same denominations.
