Well, that question is not specific enough to give an exact answer, but I'll try. First of all the Roman Catholic faith is not against scientific discovery & medical technology so long as they do not go against morality & the laws of God. Several things that are medically related that the church stands against because of this are abortion, & contraception ( including operations to make male or female sterile, Birth Control, condoms, etc.). This one other thing is worth mentioning alone, and that is masturbation. Some medical professional claim that this is necessary for prostate health, relief of stress, and such things. This, of course, is not true. Although pleasing, it is an unnatural act & against morality & the laws of God. There is plenty of scriptural proof of this, of which I'll not get into. The Church doesn't mindlessly make laws against things that people like because it thinks it's better than everyone else. The Church is very ancient & dates back to the founding fathers of Christianity. The problem with other christian religions is that they don't believe in tradition & the teaching authority of the apostles & their successors. Many cling to The Bible without knowing it origin & how it was that it came to be assembled. The treat it as if the bible was written by God personally, fell straight out of the sky, & landed in the lap of King James. The bible was around long before him, who wasn't even born until the 16th century. It was the successors of the Apostles, including the leader ( who is called Pope these days), who decided which books were truly inspired by God. These books by far do not contain all truth & everything that went on during Jesus' time on Earth & shortly there after. It even states this fact in the Gospels. What is there, however, was considered sufficient to convey the good news. Before Jesus left his Apostle before his ascension, he told them that he had much to tell them, but they could not bear it now & and that he would send his holy spirit to teach them further. If you look throughout history you'll see the many councils that were held by the Church leaders in order to define what it believed about different things that were brought into question. The first council, that of Jerusalem, is actually in the scriptures. It was about the debate over the gentile being accepted into the church. Did they say, "hey is this in the bible"? No, they didn't. There was no such book put together yet. They acted on the authority given them by Jesus himself to come to a decision, with peter as head with the final say So it has been with many such debates throughout history that questioned particular beliefs concerning the faith itself directly such as Jesus being God and man and not just one or the other, the consecrated bread and wine actually being the true body and blood of Jesus himself, the immaculate conception of Mary the Mother of God. Not every question & debate on beliefs in answered in the bible. The further humans advance in technology, the more that the Church has to define were it stand on new circumstances that were not present before. Such as stem cell research, cloning, birth control pills, sex changes & such things that were not put into question because the type of technology that spawns such thing has not existed until now. Advancement in tech. is not the only thing that creates new debates and need for clarification on how they concern the laws of God. As the depravity of man grows so does his imagination & uncommon desires for different things that may or may not be unlawful in the eyes of God. The church is all about advancement in medical science, so long as it is used for good.

Catholic AnswerRoman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is rarely used by the Catholic Church. Your question is a little too broad, if you are asking about the current brouhaha in the United States political debate, then Catholics believe that we should take care of each other on an individual basis, and we should have access to available medical care. We should not be required by a government to violate our religious beliefs by having to pay insurance premiums for things which are sins and condemned by God such as murdering unborn babies, providing contraception, supporting euthanasia, etc.

There are many beliefs about health covered in the Catholic faith: healing the sick is one of the Church's tasks, as well as praying for them, respecting them, etc. Saint Theresa of Calcutta exemplified this to an extraordinary degree. In addition, each Christian is responsible for his own health before God.
