"The Bloody Massacre," Paul Revere The poem is a part of the Revere print of that title. Where can I see it in easy to read print?
British soldiers opened fire on a group of unarmed civilians in Boston, 5 March 1770. Crispus Attucks, a former slave and dock worker, was the first to die. Victims Caldwell and Maverick were 17 years old; Gray and Carr were local merchants. Paul Revere called this event "The Bloody Massacre On King Street" which years later was morphed to The Boston Massacre, an event which helped trigger the American Revolution.
Christopher (Crispus) Attucks, African-American sailor who was the first to fall. Attucks' past remains mysterious, but he likely escaped slavery around 1750 and spent the next twenty years working whaling ships. The only victim of the Boston Massacre whose name became widely known, Crispus Attucks was memorialized as the first hero of the American Revolution.
Crispus Attucks got shot during the Boston Massacre. It was on March 5, 1770. But, it wasn't actually a massacre. The colonists were provoking the Redcoats, so one of them shot a colonist out of self-defense. Paul Revere's picture have lots of flaws in it, like how he drew the British soldiers were lined up, shoulder-to-shoulder. Paul Revere made it look like it was planned. He also made it look like the colonists were innocent by making their expressions scared and confused. He also drew a small animal near the colonists to show that the colonists didn't have anything to do with it. And, Paul Revere drew Crispus Attucks as a white man, for the colonists wouldn't care at that time if an African American gets killed. This made the colonists who saw the drawing in the newspapers grow more hatred to the British.
You're thinking of Crispus Attucs. He was a sailor. He was shot with two other americans. Although there is some question as to whether or not he was the first one shot but he was the first one to die; he died instantly, the others died the next day or so. There is also some question as to why the British soldiers fired. The way it is told, the British soldiers were being taunted and eventually were found not guilty. Thier lawyer was John Adams, who eventually became Washington's vice-president and then later the second president of the United States. The event was depicted in a famous engraving by Paul Revere and this is said to have instigated the Untied States in going to war with England.
The four victims named in this primary source were John, Paul, George, and Ringo. They were part of the British rock band The Beatles.
The "Boston Massacre" occurred on March 5, 1770. A squad of British soldiers. come to support a sentry who was being pressed by a heckling, snowballing crowd, let loose a volley of shots. Three persons were killed immediately and two died later of their wounds, among the victims was Crispus Attucks, a man of black or Indian parentage. Many historian believe that Crispus Attucks was the same man who in 1750 was advertised as a runaway slave from Framingham, Ma. A stranger to Boston, he was leading a march against the Townshend Acts when the killing occurred. Paul Revere who was one of the great patriots of his time, sketched a drawing about the massacre which took place, as well as John Pufford who also drew about the killing. Through research we can conclude that Paul Reveres and John Pufford were both important factors in capturing what really happened in "The Boston Massacre" and that Crispus Attucks was the first black to fall in the American Revolution.
