Zen Buddhists believe that words and thoughts contribute to our ignorance so rather than spend time attempting to debate or think our way to a realization on emptiness, it is better to simply get to down to the business of meditation to achieve enlightenment.

Truth has already appeared, right in front of you. So find the mind that's like a clear mirror, reflecting this moment just as it is. Don't hold any idea; let thoughts and feelings appear and disappear like clouds in the sky. If you don't hold ideas, then there's no I/my/me, so you can respond to each situation with compassion. When you're hungry, eat; when you're tired, sleep; when someone is suffering, help them.

Zen Buddhism teaches nothing. It is not a teaching or creed at all: it is a practice.

So becoming a Zen Buddhist does not involve understanding or believing anything. The only belief required is the belief that the practice may help you to live better. To practice is simply to do zazen, which is the distinctive breathing meditation of Zen Buddhism. It's simple to learn how to practice zazen, but it's difficult to master the practice. Mastery of the practice brings, or is supposed to bring, many blessings. Therefore, in a sense, those blessing are the teachings of Zen Buddhism.

Zen Buddhism is the school of Buddhism that emphasizes meditation. The basic form of meditation in Zen Buddhism is called "zazen" which is a simple (but not easy!) form of meditation that is most often done using a seated posture.

Zen Buddhism features the use of Koans as an instruction technique. These are questions that cannot be answered by logic but by an intuitive appreciation of the question.
