Amoebas have constrictile vacuoles that pump excess water out of their cytoplasm.
They usually move out of the way to stay out of danger :P
I do get it,for the organism living in the hypertonic salt water(ocean) the contractile vacuole is most not needed since the water in the organism are already on thier way out!
They store food and wastes. Some vacuoles also store extra water. they pump extra water out of the cell.
Hmm. Maybe Sodium and Potassium? Or another answer is it transfers Na+ (sodium) out of the cell and K+ potassium into the cell.
When a molecule moves to a higher concentration it needs help of a pump. We call this facilitated diffusion. Osmosis only deals with the movement of water.
It uses the Contractile Vacuole to pump out water. amoebas are retarted
Water gun; Hydro pump.
The structure is called the contractile vacuole. It can pump water out of the cell when there is too much. This way, the excess water won't cause it the cell to burst. They can be found in both animal and plant cells.
You would need a sump pump repair if the sump pump in your basement is not pumping out water. The purpose of a sump pump is to drain excess water that is part of your waterproofing system.
The contractile vacuole removes the excess water that enters the organism through osmosis (passive transport doest not require ATP) down a concentration gradient. Because the water is more concentrated on the outside of the organism in the fresh water of its habitat the water enters the organism by osmosis. The water on the outside is hypertonic and the water on the inside of the organism is hypotonic. The contractile Vacuole acts as a pump to remove and excess water without this the cell would burst from to much excess water.
That sounds like you have a good sump pump and it's really trying hard to get rid of excess water.
I'm not sure about other Protozoans but Paramecium, a freshwater ciliate, pumps out excess water with it's Contractile Vacuoles.
Most will have a contractile vacuole that will pump out excess water to avoid turgor pressure.
You add an excess pump tube to drain extra fluid.
Hats off for the beautiful question! There is osmolarity inside the protozoa. The water will enter by osmosis inside the cell. The protozoa must be spending most of the energy to take out the water out of the cell body. The protozoa probably create the vacuole inside the cell. The water molecules are secreted in the vacuole. This requires energy. The vacuole is opened to exterior to drive out the water. The process is repeated continuously.
Contractile proteins are found in what?
Fuel pump is what pumps gas to engine. Water pump is what pump water in engine
